Vince Gironda posing (1950s?)

Today we feature footage of the late “Iron Guru” Vince Gironda doing a physique posing exhibition, from the “ironguru” Youtube channel. The footage has been paired with Vangelis’ “Chariots of Fire” theme, which was one of the preferred compositions of Gironda’s student Mohamed Makkawy.

Gironda had a superb level of definition for the time, as quite evident in this posing routine. In fact, physique judges docked points because they were unaccustomed to such low body fat levels.

The Youtube channel attributes this footage to the year 1947. However, Gironda’s appearances in fitness publications over the years show that he did not attain such a high level of definition until several years later. In any case, this is certainly an inspiration in the physical fitness field.

This is just fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing. It’s so rare to see video footage of his competing days!

I’m glad you enjoyed this post. It’s unfortunate that such footage is so rare. This was well before everybody recorded everything on their camera phones, haha.

Absolutely. THere’s something nice about that though – feels more unique when there’s so few images. Somehow I doubt Vince would have had an instagram page had he competed today!
